Film Industry Assessment LR

 1) WWW: This is a strong assessment which shows good knowledge of the film industry and CSP. It also has the potential to secure even higher marks with just a couple of minor improvements and additional details. I particularly like your discussion in Q3 regarding why Blinded By The Light may have been less successful.

EBI: The BBFC question is very close but you make it sound like the guidance is for the industry/filmmakers where primarily the BBFC rating and content guidance is for the audience.

For Q2, you just needed a bit more detail to your answer – for the interviews strategy, say who the interviews were with and where they appeared (e.g. writer Sarfraz Manzoor on The One Show on BBC1).

Q3 is a strong answer and in terms of quantity perfect for a 9-mark question. The only thing keeping it from the top band in the mark scheme is specific reference to Blinded By The Light’s industry contexts. You needed a bit more than the initial box office figures and perhaps more of an industry focus – e.g. in the final paragraph you could have discussed how BBTL potentially failed due to it being released at the same time as Yesterday, a similar music-based British film.

2)
  • 1. 2/3: Need to be clearer on who the BBFC are guiding. Instead of focusing on the film makers/industry I should have spoke more about the audience.
  • 2. 5/6: Could have given an example for interviews to provide further insight onto how and who promoted them.
  • 3. 6/9: I didn't extend the answer as far I should have. An additional paragraph on BBTL may have boosted the marks.
3) One of the methods used to promote BBTL was its music since they're smothered the movie in Bruce Springsteens music so fans of his may just give the movie a try just for the fact that it has a similar passion.

4)
  • BBTL was released to close to Yesterday which was another British comedy. This could have taken some of its viewers.
  • Despite being rated highly on Rotten Tomatoes the film itself wasn't able to cover its costs
  • BBTL created great excitement at the film festival and was bought by New Line Cinema for 15 million so they could distribute it.
