Cinematography practical Learner Response

Teacher Feedback  Love the soundtrack and overalll a great creative approach. The use of narrative makes the video really engaging for the audience. Very nice range of shots and camera movement-In particular the OTS and POV shots. Great framing! A few shots incorrectly labelled (e.g. mid shot) Would be EBI but lots to credit here  Student Feedback Good narrative but need more camera shots I like the background music and he used a range of shots Music worked well but it was hard to understand what was going on at the end Different shots used well The camera should focus on some of the shots Not enough camera movement Shaky camera movements  Some shots were hard to recognise WWW: I think the music hints to the audience where the plot is going while also making it a bit more engaging for the audience as the video progresses with it. Had a decent amount of shots that were mostly used correctly. The narrative seemed to be creative. EBI: I need to make sure the camera is steady...

Cinematography Practical

Media Cinematography Practical This video was made on my phone (Which has terrible quality) and I filmed it in a classroom with a friend. The aim was to make a video revolving around a person stealing someone's wallet with a decent amount of camera shots. As the video progresses I tried to make the movement of the camera and its transitions faster as a way to raise the excitement of the scene. Each scene with the newspaper in focus had some kind of political figure or debate. In retrospect, the 2 close ups I used may have been to quick now that I look back at it since they should be important shots for the viewers.

Sound video feedback

- This is an excellent video that meets the brief impressively. The first half works well as contrapuntal sound - it got a laugh from me which is always a good sign. It's also a memorable choice of clip too. - When the video switches over to Superman, it immediately feels more suited which shows this is a good use of parallel sound. The video therefore demonstrates your understanding of the media terminology.   - The only EBI I can suggest is perhaps using a collage of clips from a range of films for each part of the video to further demonstrate your understanding of the relationship between sound and image. WWW: I think the contrapuntal and parallel i've chosen contrasted each other each other and the music solidified it with both the scenes matching the music as intended. EBI: Near the end of the contrapuntal clip the sound drops to silence for a little to long before restarting again. This audio transition could have been better and by making it shorter would make it...

Blog Feedback

WWW: You started really well with the film poster analysis and your mise-en-scene analysis tasks. I really like the choice of still image to analyse and you’ve also picked out some good elements of the mise-en-scene in the Get Out scene. You’ve written in some detail for those first two blog tasks and that’s something you want to continue and build on as the course develops because A Level is a very demanding standard. EBI: The isolation and illness going around this half-term have made things very tricky but it’s now crucial that we get back on top of the workload because constantly being behind makes for a tough year. You are missing four pieces on the coursework side but I’m confident you’ll be able to catch those up over half-term. Remember, for the mise-en-scene recreation you can now simply submit detailed planning rather than the full video. In terms of your analysis work, the key feedback is regarding the depth and detail required at A Level – just as you demonstrate in y...

Sound Analysis

Image
1)  Clockwork Orange-  The music choice isn't what I would expect from this type of scene from that movie with all the chaos going on around it as the guy hits them all into the water and holds a knife. I believe the director chose this music to show us what hes thinking not just from there internal monologue but through non diagetic sound. The characters mind sees his actions as methodical and planned so everything going on is within his control.   Funny Games- At the beginning the music seems to be parallel to whats going on in the scene with a nice calm and classic song maybe trying to show that the family is just your everyday normal group of people. Then near the middle the music takes a drastic shift and becomes contrapuntel to whats going on. The director might be trying to say that underneath the façade of them being normal they're lives are in constant chaos. The 2nd music was loud and a obnoxious. The narrative might delve into how a stereotypical family would r...

Lighting blog post

Image
1)The first image is an example of low key lighting as on the image, the ladies face has a drastic split of light and shadows where the rays of light shine harshly on her face while the shadows (although enough for us to see her face) seem a lot more soft. It also uses top lighting because the shadows don't cloud her facial expressions. With these 2 combined it gives off a sense of mystery around the character especially with the with smoke. 2) This image is an example of low key lighting with most of the shot/picture being kept in darkness whilst having contrasting bits of light. Just like the other picture this one uses top lightning as the main source of light illuminates the actresses face as she gazes towards the ceiling. These effects bring of a sense a dread as the shadows are heavily favoured and the Woman's face almost being consumed by it. 3) The image used definitely uses high key lightning as the king stands in the bright of day with the image being brightly lit wi...

Mise-en-scene Practical plan

Rocky Training montage                                              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YYmfM2TfUA From this scene I would be trying to recreate the scenes from 2:00 to 2:40. This is the scene where he runs up the stairs and celebrates the lengths hes gone to in order to succeed through his training.  This scene starts with a low angled shot that tracks Sylvester till he reaches the top. Then he dances as he celebrates his perseverance with the camera zooming into him from an extreme wide shot and finally a slow motion close up. To recreate this I would need to record with a friend in Trafalgar square during some time in the early morning to get the location and timing right right as well. As Rocky I would need to wear grey jo...
